About

I work within the Person-Centred Modality combined with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness and Existential Therapy where the emphasis is on the human condition as a whole, both capabilities and limitations. I am passionate about providing care and support for those who may need it. My nature is caring, and I am a very empathetic person.

I feel that providing an environment that offers the right ingredients allows individuals to talk freely without feeling judged and know that their concerns have been heard. I have worked with people for many years in different settings and understand how unpredictable and pressured life can be.

My love for counselling started back when I was in my twenties. I soon became aware of the life-altering changes that can come from having counselling. I decided to take a leap and moved away to Cornwall from the North West in 2000 and started a new life where I was lucky enough to be surrounded by many different opportunities and people.

I started my counselling journey in 2007 at Cornwall College where I completed my level 2 introduction to Counselling Certificate. I then took a break in between where I worked closely with the transgender community via the NHS and the Laurels within my own business. I was fortunate to be able to offer specific treatments for helping individuals move into a new life transition. This was very rewarding for me and gave me a whole new way of working with specific individuals. Later I went on to complete my level 4 counselling certificate over one year and then I continued my journey straight onto my level 5 Person-Centred Counselling Diploma through Plymouth University stretching over two years.

I have completed a specialist course in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy where I am able to help individuals with their thoughts and behaviours. CBT is a more structured way of therapy that I feel combines with the person-centred modality politely.

Moving away from University I have completed a certified CPTSD course and a level 2 Autism Certificate via Lincoln University. My interests go further and expand towards self-harm and suicide where I completed again a level 2 certificate via Strode College and where I intend to develop my learning further. I have also been lucky enough to have been able to train in Domestic/Sexual Violence.

Whilst going through my training, I attended a two-day Asist course ( Applying Suicide Intervention Skills Training)  This has given me the skills to help anyone who is suffering from suicidal ideation. This help can be over the phone or face-to-face. It would be in the moment-help when an individual is actively suicidal.

My Bachelor’s Degree (BSc) was completed at Leeds Beckett University in 2023 in Therapeutic Counselling.

I have an up-to-date DBS Certificate and registered as GDPR-compliant.

I am a member of the BACP body for professional counsellors. I also work for BetterHelp part-time, please follow this link if you would like to sign up for great benefits and engage in your therapy process https://www.betterhelp.com/angela-leoni/
