Popular Questions

  • Counseling Fees

    What are the fees?

I charge £55.00 per session via Teams or over the phone. Each session will be 60 minutes long, happening weekly with pre-arranged and agreed day, time, and venue.

If you are a student or on certain benefits Brighter Lives offers a cheaper rate of £ 35ph.

  • How many sessions will I need?

This can be a difficult question to know the answer to. Therapy is unique to each individual; therefore, it is not possible to say at the beginning how many sessions a person may need.

Open-ended therapy is great if you feel time-limited therapy may cause concern and anxiety. When therapy is open-ended it can deepen the therapeutic relationship as further exploration and a deeper level of processing can happen.

  • IS THIS THE RIGHT THERAPY FOR ME?

There are many different types of therapy available today. I am Person-Centred trained which means you are in control of the therapy and will lead the way at your own pace. If you feel after a few sessions that it is not the right therapy for you I am happy to discuss this further and help you to move forward.
  • How do I know if I need counselling?

Only you can decide whether you feel ready to try counselling. By talking to someone confidentially, in a neutral environment with someone who is not a friend or family member can make a really big difference. I can offer you regular one-to-one sessions on a day and time that suits you to discuss any presenting issues you may have. I can help you develop better ways of managing your concerns, allowing you to move forward and get the most out of life.

Online Therapy

We all know that the last two years during the Covid pandemic life has been particularly stressful. If you feel that you would still prefer to have online counselling due to the stress of Covid then I welcome you to join me over Teams, a safe and confidential platform or we can connect over the phone. We can focus on your needs and concerns in a comfortable environment that allows you to be yourself. We would discuss how this could work for you during our initial free 30-minute telephone conversation.

Online therapy is an ideal way for many individuals to seek confidential and professional support.

Outdoor Therapy

Our session takes place outdoors either in a particular place or walking side by side, were you lead the pace just like a traditional session. Outdoors therapy could be more comfortable for you and could help release inhibition and tension whilst taking in the fresh air and your surroundings of nature. It can be taken as an introduction to counselling, followed up by a more formal type of therapy if you are apprehensive about being alone in a room with a therapist looking at you. This type of therapy is not for exercise, it is a choice and a process for what you are comfortable with.

Face-To-Face Therapy

We will meet as previously discussed and continue your counselling journey in a safe and comfortable environment that is solely for you. You are to attend any face-to-face appointments five minutes before your session. Just like online or telephone work our session together will last for 50 minutes. Sometimes being face to face enables people to feel safer within a non-judgemental environment. It can promote a greater therapeutic relationship and bring about feelings of relief being in a private space without any of life’s disturbances.

Phone Therapy

Just like online therapy this way of communicating may be more suitable for you and your needs. It can be helpful for people who experience high anxiety and do not want to leave the house or for people who simply prefer over-the-phone therapy. We can work together over the phone in private where your comfort and needs are paramount.

Modalities offered

I am a Humanistic Therapist

What is Humanistic Therapy? Well, Humanistic Therapy is focused towards yourself-development, growth and recognition of your strengths, creativity and choice in the “here and now”.  I can offer you a safe, supportive space where, together, we will explore you and your potential. Ultimately, working towards developing your own personal growth – mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Humanistic therapy (also referred to as person-centred therapy) is a client-led style of therapy looking at an individual’s self-worth and values.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a type of talking therapy. It is a common treatment for a range of mental health problems. CBT teaches you coping skills for dealing with different problems. It focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes affect your feelings and actions.

Existential Therapy

Focusing on exploring the meaning of certain issues from a philosophical perspective. this approach is often helpful and can be helpful in exploring existential crises and anxieties. This type of therapy primarily searches for meaning in life and strives to help individuals develop their sense of self-determination. It differs from basic humanistic therapy by focusing on the search for meaning and free will that allows you to make decisions about the direction you want to take in your life.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness means maintaining a moment-by-moment awareness of our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and surrounding environment, through a gentle, nurturing lens. Mindfulness is the basic human ability to be fully present, aware of where we are and what we’re doing, and not overly reactive or overwhelmed by what’s going on around us. Together we can work on Mindfulness techniques that will help you in everyday life.
