Frequently Asked Questions
a safe space where personal exploration is offered
Starting counselling can bring up lots of questions, especially if you’re new to therapy or considering online sessions for the first time. This page answers some of the most common questions about counselling, how sessions work, and what you can expect from working together.
If you have a question that isn’t covered here, you’re always welcome to get in touch — I’m happy to talk things through and help you decide whether counselling feels right for you.
What are your councelling fees?
I charge £50.00 per session via Teams or over the phone. Each session will be 60 minutes long, happening weekly with a pre-arranged and agreed day, time, and venue.
If you are a student or on certain benefits, Brighter Lives offers a lower rate of £ 35 per hour.
How many sessions will I need?
This can be a difficult question to know the answer to. Therapy is unique to each individual; therefore, it is not possible to say at the beginning how many sessions a person may need.
Open-ended therapy is great if you feel time-limited therapy may cause concern and anxiety. When therapy is open-ended it can deepen the therapeutic relationship as further exploration and a deeper level of processing can happen.
Is this the right therapy for me?
There are many different types of therapy available today. I am Person-Centred trained which means you are in control of the therapy and will lead the way at your own pace. If you feel after a few sessions that it is not the right therapy for you I am happy to discuss this further and help you to move forward.
How do I know if I need counselling?
Only you can decide whether you feel ready to try counselling. By talking to someone confidentially, in a neutral environment with someone who is not a friend or family member can make a really big difference. I can offer you regular one-to-one sessions on a day and time that suits you to discuss any presenting issues you may have. I can help you develop better ways of managing your concerns, allowing you to move forward and get the most out of life.
